What documents do I need for the Wohngeld application? Complete checklist with all required documents, forms and supporting evidence.

Documents for the Wohngeld Application

For your Wohngeld application to be processed quickly, you must submit all required documents in full. Missing documents are the most common reason for delays. Here's the complete checklist.

Checklist: These Documents You Need

The following documents and proofs must be enclosed with your Wohngeld application:

  1. Completed and signed Wohngeld application (main form)
  2. Landlord's rent certificate – completed and signed by the landlord. The form is available from the Wohngeldstelle or through the application service.
  3. Tenancy agreement – copy of the current tenancy agreement
  4. Proof of income for all household members – payslips from the last 3 to 6 months, pension notices, proof of unemployment benefit I, sickness benefit, or parental benefit
  5. Latest income tax assessment – if available
  6. ID card or passport – copy (front and back) of all adult household members
  7. Proof of health insurance – insurance card or membership confirmation
  8. Bank statements from the last three months – as proof of regular payments such as rent
  9. For children: birth certificates, proof of child benefit, maintenance proofs or maintenance orders if applicable
  10. For the self-employed: business evaluation (BWA), income and expenditure statement, and latest tax assessment

Tips for Gathering Documents

Collect all documents before you fill out the application. This avoids interruptions and errors. Create a separate pile for each household member. Copies are sufficient – keep the originals in case they are requested later. If individual documents are missing, you can still submit the application. The Wohngeldstelle will then request the missing documents.
